Kaila Devi Mela 2016 - April 4 (Monday)
Kaila Devi temple is a Hindu temple located on the Trikut hills of Karauli district of Rajasthan on the banks of Kalisil river that is 2 km away from Kaila Village. Every year, Kaila Devi Chaitra Mela (Fair) takes place in this holy place of Kaila Devi. The original name of Kaila Devi is Lahura and it is believed that Kaila Devi has protected this place from type of invasion.
The temple has a marble structure with a large courtyard of a checkered floor. In one place are a number of red flags planted by devotees.The highly famed Kaila Devi Chaitra Mela takes place during the Krishna Paksh of ‘chaitra’ and continues till the fortnight starting from 12th day of Chaitra Badi i.e. either in the month of March or April. This particular fair takes place in the honor of deity Kaila Devi, believed to be a form Chamunda, the goddess of death and Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Different types of animals are sacrificed outside the temple to persuade the goddess Kaila Devi.
Kela Devi is also called Kalia Mata. Earlier the village was named Kalia after a sadhu called Kedar Giri who lived on the of the river Kali Sil.Maharaja Gopal Singh of Yadava clan built a big and beautiful temple with dome whose apex was made from gold. Maharaja Bhanwarpal fabricated many buildings and the area soon acquired immense popularity for its sacredness and scenic charm.
